Tinantia pringlei variegata - Variegated Mexican Speckled Tradescantia

Our remaining 4" pots are less variegated than we'd like, so we're discounting them for you! They should go on to produce lovely colors, but here in the sun and heat of the greenhouse, they're losing the variegation they had. We're certain you'll still love them!

Unique variegated white and green leaves deeply speckled with purple create an unusual appearance for this hard to find tradescantia relative. It’s a little trickier than it’s more common cousins, and generally grows best from seed. Bright purple self-pollinating flowers appear consistently through its growing season (we're sending plants that are currently in flower!), so you should have a constant amount of new growth arising from the ground as seeds drop and germinate, and as underground runners send out new growth. You can also grow it from cuttings, but this one doesn't have the same high success rate as its cousins; cuttings are best rooted in water.

We love how easy it is to care for in a bright indoor location, or outside in filtered light to full sun. Like all tradescantia and relatives, it's drought-tolerant. However, this gorgeous addition to your decor is happiest when regularly watered while it's actively growing (water before the soil is totally dry).

Plants are shipped bare root, without pots. We take great care to package each order securely so your plants arrive happy and healthy. Each plant is removed from the nursery pot or plug tray it's currently growing in, the root ball (minus any loose soil) is wrapped in recycled plastic, and the whole plant is wrapped in paper for safety.

All photos are representations of the plants you will receive. Each order is hand-selected to provide the greatest quality to our customers. Because of the way our plants are pulled, wrapped, and packed, and because we have walk in customers, we are unfortunately not able to provide photos of the plant you will receive. We take every precaution, as always, to protect your order, however, we are not responsible for USPS delays or damages caused by weather or shipping. Please be aware of the weather in your area when your order is due to arrive, and plan accordingly. You may need to arrange pickup of your order with a neighbor, friend, or at your local post office, if you're experiencing extreme weather.

If there is an issue with your order upon arrival, please contact us within 5 days to resolve the issue.
Occasionally, despite all of our care in wrapping/packing your order, some extreme damage may occur in transit. Please contact us, with photos, directly here at Etsy, so we can determine if replacements are necessary. If the majority of the plant will survive, or if the damage is minimal or cosmetic, we may issue store credit in the form of a coupon, rather than shipping a replacement. In the vast majority of cases, because these are young "starter" plants, any damaged leaves will quickly be replaced by new growth, with proper care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my plants be the exact plant(s) in the picture?

All photos are representative of items you will receive. Please remember these are live plants, and they will vary in size, shape, and color. We choose listing photos that are similar to the plant you receive, that accurately represent what we send out. Each order is hand-selected to provide the greatest quality to our customers; we do our best to choose the best of the bunch every time. Because these are live plants, some slight mechanical damage may show on some leaves. We remove any heavily damaged portions, but may choose to retain leaves that are damaged but still healthy and providing energy to the plant. These possible slight imperfections make your plant unique and special, and will in no way affect the health of your plant.

Shipping Policies

Plants are shipped bare root, without pots. Upon arrival, plants should be potted, watered and exposed to indirect sunlight based on the plant's needs.

We ship USPS First-Class Mail and USPS Priority Mail based on size, weight, distance, and customer preference. Items will be shipped within 3-5 business days of receiving payment unless otherwise noted in each listing. During peak order times, this may increase to 5-7 business days. If you need the items immediately, please contact us, or choose Priority Express.

Shipping is only available within the United States. Puerto Rico residents will need to choose priority shipping; first class is not available.

Combined Shipping and Bulk Orders

We offer partially combined shipping. The first item will be charged at full price and will increase by a fixed amount based on each item added to the package.

We love reviews of all kinds - the good, the bad, and the ugly! However, if there is an issue with your order, and you leave a review BEFORE reaching out to us directly to rectify the problem, do not expect us to contact you or replace any damaged plants. We're very reasonable and are always willing to work with our customers, but we don't always see every review, and aren't able to help if we don't know there's a problem. Please contact us here at Etsy messages if there is an issue with your order upon arrival! Messages here are monitored at nearly all times, and we do our best to respond within 24-48 hours. We are not able to access your customer information from reviews, our Facebook page, or our email, so please contact us here at Etsy.

USPS Issues

If your tracking shows your order as delivered, but it hasn't arrived, please allow the USPS 3-5 business days to get it to you. This is an occasional issue, and is generally resolved with a short wait. If your package hasn't arrived by the end of the 5th business day after it's marked delivered, please contact us so we can file a claim and send you a replacement if necessary.
